And three pictures of my new shawl

We live in the city where wildlife is not abundant.  We have mockingbirds and sparrows but this bird is very unusual for my neighborhood so I grabbed the camera and took some photos.

Isn't he guy gorgeous.  He visited with us for quite awhile that morning and then moved on.

From the garden to the oven - -

When life gives you squash you make zucchini bread.  I used my regular zucchini bread recipe and substituted the yellow crooknecks.  YUM!!!!

With all our fresh tomatoes and basil I started thinking about caprese salad.  All I needed was some fresh mozzarella cheese to go with it.  I got it in my head to make some.  I remembered seeing it made on TV and started hunting down recipes.  I needed rennet and ascorbic acid which was nowhere to be found but the internet is a lovely thing and I was able to aquire those two items. The only other ingredient I needed was whole milk.  The only requirement for the milk was that it wasn't ultra-pasteurized.  I went to Sprouts and found raw milk.  It was a bit more expensive than I expected but if I was going to make cheese I was going to do it right.

My cheese.  Isn't it cute!!

And my caprese salad.

I will be making cheese again and again.

See My Garden Grow

Monday, March 25, 2013

It's been years since I had a garden and this year we decided to start it up again.

We have several varieties of tomatoes, four different chilis, acorn squash, crookneck squash, broccoli, four bush beans, six cucumbers, cauliflower, cabbage, several pea plants, garlic, a blueberry plant, raspberry bush, and goji berry plant.  The plants are small right now but they're growing fast.

YAY for Spring!!

Almost April Update

I just looked and realized I hadn't posted anything in almost three months.  Life sure gets in the way sometimes.

This was a lot cozier than I expected.  It went to my friend Cindy as a birthday gift.

Advertised as a neckwarmer but it turned out much larger than expected.  It's purple, it's perfect.  Need I say more.

Dona got a new winter coat and is going to visit her daughter in Oklahoma in a few weeks.  She requested a blue and a red scarf to match the new coat.  The blue one is seed stitch with a basketweave border and the  pattern for the red scarf can be found here.

Aren't these so pretty.  I love them but unfortunately they were too small for me.  Lucky for Mona, they fit her just right!!

My wonderful friend Sheila saw this yarn and sent it to me.  This pattern does the yarn justice.  Thanks again Sheila!!

I've been wanting to make a scrap blanket for a long time.  After ripping out two other patterns I found this one.  It's warm, it's soft, it's cozy, it's perfect, and I used up almost all my leftover Homespun.  Kathy, please note the 12" ruler for scale.

EVERYONE NEEDS A FINGER WORM!!!  Okay, maybe only I need a finger worm but he makes me happy.
