50 Shades of Grey
Every year I knit a scarf for Marlene. Usually she chooses the color
but this year my friend Kathy suggested I knit her something in “50 Shades of
Grey.” Kathy has a gift for choosing themes and I was very impressed with the idea since Kathy, Marlene, and I, along with millions of others have read
The Grey series.
Marlene will be out visiting from Utah in a couple of weeks and I'll gift it to her then.
I'm sure there aren't 50 shades of Grey but who's going to count them.

It's 80+ degrees and my son wants a beanie?????
I guess it's a fashion statement.
He also wanted a keychain. I'd almost forgotten how to make these. Thanks youtube.

Waiting for Winter
I finished my Mordor a few weeks ago and I love how it turned out. I can't wait for winter to wear this.
Mona and Katie, I can hear you laughing at me and my cold temperatures.

Bibs for Juliette
We did a baby bib mystery last month. How convenient was it that my son has a pregnant friend. She said she'd put them on the baby, take a photo, and take them off. What's the point of making something if a person isn't going to use it. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toilet paper cover?
Everyone in the mystery group is always guessing Toilet Paper Cover when we're in the midst of a mystery. One of the ladies decided it was time to find one and do THAT as a mystery. This is the pattern she came up with. It was great fun having people guess this one.

I've started and I can't stop
Obsession? Addiction? I have more dishcloth yarn than anyone should and once I started making these I couldn't stop. I'm at 16 and counting. I'm hoping to make a dent in my dishcloth yarn.
The photo below is my dishcloth yarn before I started. I've been to Joann's and Michael's recently and had to force myself to say away from that yarn. "But there are so many new colors to choose from."
Don't you just hate willpower.

Inquisitive
I was taking some yarn out to the back yard to photograph. Kitty Kitty, being her inquisitive self, came to see what I was doing out there. Next the bunny, who never wants to miss out on any fun, came for a visit. I finally got my yarn photographed.
This is what it looks like thus far.

Ballband mania!!
Kathy was making ballband dishcloths for a Pueblo Bombing. I hadn't made any in a long time and was inspired to start a couple.
A few days later Kathy was looking at the Ravelry ballbands and found one where both colors were variegated and realized what a nice combination it was that she wouldn't have thought of.
Somehow we decided that we should close our eyes, dive into our dishcloth stash (of which we both have way too much of), and choose random colors. My first grab was orange and self striping pink. I didn't think they'd look good together but they do. I can see a lot of choosing colors for ballbands this way in my future.
My hubby says they look rustic.

Random Musings
I was driving to work this morning and drove by a neon sign that told me that if you are not using a hands-free device the ticket will cost $159. That got me thinking about other "fun" California laws.
1. You must use a hands free device, as stated above.
2. You are not allowed to text and drive. My sister tells me in Florida they can talk, text, and eat while they drive.
3. Gas was $4.11 per gallon this morning on my way to work which is better than the $4.35 per gallon I paid three weeks ago. This sounds like I get gas every three weeks but no, I got gas this morning too. It's a weekly endeavor. I drive 42 miles round trip daily to and from work then there are the trips here and there and back again.
4. If your windshield wipers are on, you must, by law, turn on your headlights.
The following has been discussed with my friend Kathy who lives in Texas.
5. We are not allowed to own ferrets although they sell ferret food in Petsmart.
6. We are not allowed to buy or sell real snakeskin objects. You are not allowed to "bring in a purse made of mountain lion." Backup information here.

April Mysteries

I did two this month. The first is called the Mustard Scarf although mine should be called the Blueberry Scarf.
The second mystery was designed by my co-moderator on the group, Heather. The edges came out a bit scallopy but it is definitely going to get a lot of use.

Let's knit in purple!
Kevin's friend is having a baby girl in a few months and the mom's favorite color is purple. Isn't everyone's? Maybe not but it is mine. I started with the blanket and then moved onto the bunny and the elephant. The baby shower is mid-April so I had time for a hat and booties. I should probably stop now.
About that time there was the February mystery and there was more purple yarn laying around waiting to be used.
There's nothing funner than purple knitting!!
