Happy Fall Kathy!

Two years ago I bought Kathy some fall slippers and last year I knitted her a pair. This year she received another pair. Am I starting a tradition? I don't know but I do know that these "Pocketbook Slippers" were way easy and fast.

I realized at the end of the second slipper that I was supposed to be doing K2P2 for the bottom but by then I'd done a K1P1 through the first slipper and then the second. Looking at the pattern after; I doubt it will matter. Thanks to Susie for the embellishment idea!!

My pumpkin needed a friend

My pumpkin needed a friend so I made it a butternut squash to keep it company. Dona liked it so much it's going to go live at her house. I have enough for another one if I'm so inclined.

Bring on the winter!!

It's close to 100 degrees right now and I'm knitting myself mittens. Is it because winter is right around the corner? Not exactly. My snow-living friends make fun of me when I make and wear mittens. I know, 60 degrees is spring to them but to me it's cold.

I have always loved mittens and this pair was a joy to knit. Well, most of it. As I finished mitten #2 I noticed that I really didn't like the thumb on mitten number one. I thought I would just cut it and unravel it and start again. For some reason that didn't work for me and I ended up ripping the mitten back to the thumb gusset. I wasn't deterred because I knew the thumb would be correct on the second knitting of that mitten. I finished it, the thumb looked perfect, I took pictures. As I was looking at the pictures I noticed that I messed up on the cable on that mitten. I was not going to rip it back again. The mittens weren't to be a gift, they are for me. My hands certainly won't mind the "design enhancement" at all when it's sooooooooooo cold outside.

Jon's "Ducks" Hat

Kevin's friend Jon said to Kevin the other day.  "You know that winter's coming and that means it's time for beanies."  Jon cracks me up and loves handknit beanies.  He requested one this year in the original Anaheim Duck's colors.  Joann's had the exact colors I needed, I was so surprised and so was Jon.

Pumpkin KAL

I have been part of a Yahoo knitting group forever. Does anyone remember BR (before Ravelry)? Yes, it's been that long. A few of us decided to do a Pumpkin KAL. The pattern called for worsted but I wanted a larger pumpkin so I used bulky yarn. Dona saw mine and wanted one of her own. Can you believe these are made from the same yarn, same color, different dye lots. Amazing!!

First Christmas gift complete

Marlene's yearly scarf is finished. I made this one for her two years ago. She requested the same thing in gray. How easy is that!

August Mystery Knitting

We had two mysteries for August. The first one was a fun-to-knit hand towel.



This is the second one, a water bottle carrier. PERFECT for when it's over 100 degrees outside (like now).

June Mystery

This "Infinity Scarf" was a fun knit. It can be worn as a scarf or wrapped around your neck twice be worn as a cowl. It can also be lain across a bench to keep the bench's arm warm.

Cheater Fishing

Is it really fishing if you catch your fish at a trout farm. We had a great time and Justin caught two fish in record time. Dinner last night............ trout!!

Hexagon Fabric Swap

I was invited to join a hexagon fabric swap. If anyone's interested the details are below. So far only one person has posted her fabric but I'm sure the rest of us will get ours up there soon. I'm hoping to work on this tonight.

"A friendly fabric swap for the hexagon addict in you. In a rainbow of colors please feel free to join us.

Rules:

1. Fill a ziploc bag with a 1/2 yard of fabric in a wide variety of colors. A 2" hexagon will needs 4.5" square so the fabric minimum has to be no smaller than 4.5".

2. Post a photo to the flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/1667659@N24/)

3. For each bag you post you can select a bag from someone else

4. Be prepared to ship anywhere

5. The scraps of fabric can be recycles, reclaimed or new but they all need to be big enough to cut out a 2" hexagon (and please make sure they are pre-washed)

6. All fabrics must be 100% cotton"

Mid-May Mystery

It's been a long time since I made a market bag. I thought it would be a fun quick mystery knit and I was right. It's such an easy way to use up dishcloth or any other non-expensive yarn.

Hexagon quilt?

Whoever reads my blog regularly knows that I run a Mystery KAL on Ravelry. One of our members name is "rocketgirl." She started reading my blog and commenting. I always try to check out who's leaving comments when I don't "know" them.

I, in turn, started reading her blog. She was very encouraging about my quilting - which is fun for me but nothing like my love of knitting. She, on he other hand is quite quilt and sewing gifted which has been fun for me to read about.

Earlier this week she proposed that we do a hexagon quilt.

Being the non-savvy quilt maker I had to look it up. This is what I wrote her after I googled it:

Just googled it………….. NOT IN THIS LIFETIME!!

I think I’d rather knit it.

She is no quitter and suggested that we make table runners, nothing big. I wrote back and said I'd make one flower this weekend and then let her know. This weekend turned into one evening of cutting the templates and the next evening of sewing the flower. I fell in love with the process. She was going to do the same, wait for the weekend but ended up making her flower early as well. Both of ours are non-similar but I love the both and can't wait to make more!!

May Mystery Revealed

The Storm Cloud Shawlette was our May Mystery. the final clue was posted today so I can blog about it.

I wanted mine a bit larger so I used 10.5 needles and three strands of lace yarn held together. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
